  • About ICNM
  • The Islamic Center of New Mexico (ICNM) is a non-profit religious organization under New Mexico Non-Profit Corporation Act. ICNM is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, and/or educational purposes under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. ICNM is affiliated with Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and all associated properties are under the umbrella of North American Islamic Trust (NAIT).

  • History
  • The first Muslims who arrived in Albuquerque in early 70’s began their Juma’ (Friday) service at University of New Mexico Chapel. Later they moved to the back of Muslim businessman’s store. The first mosque/Islamic Center opened its doors in Albuquerque, New Mexico in December 1986. About twenty years later to meet the growing needs of the community, a new and expanded Mosque/Center was built in October 2006.

  • Islamic Center of New Mexico willprovidereligious, social and educational services to Muslims in Albuquerque and surrounding communities. In addition to daily prayer services and the weekly Jum’ahsalat (Friday congregational sermon and prayer), the Islamic Center of New Mexico shall operate various activities for Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

  • Goals

  • To provide religious services to the Muslim community in the State of New Mexico in practicing the religion of Islam according to the teachings of Holy Quran and Sunnah(the     traditions) of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
  • To unite, represent and serve the interests of Muslims of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
  • To propagate Islamic principles and teachings to both Muslims and non-Muslims.
  • Serve the best interests of Islam and Muslims by providing both spiritual and community services such as counseling, weddings, funerals, and other community projects.
  • To develop service institution(s) to serve Islam and Muslims in cooperation with other communities and organizations in this area.
  • To conduct religious, educational, social, cultural, and other activities in the best traditions of Islam.
  • To promote friendly relations between Muslims and non-Muslims and enhance awareness and understanding of Islam.
